The famous Pfizer erectile dysfunction treatment pills, the Viagra or simply blue pill, is a rounded-diamond shaped film-coated drug widely used as the most effective treatment for impotence or erectile dysfunction. While Viagra is the brand name, the actual medicine it contains is the citrate salt of Sildenafil, which provides an increased blood flow to the penis and restoring it’s natural capability to gain and sustain an erection. Other, inactive compounds of Viagra are lactose, titanium dioxide, triacetine and others. The Viagra comes in various dosages, and these measurements refer to the amount of actual active ingredient. There are three doses. The smallest one contains 25 milligrams of Sildenafil citrate. It is usually recommended as a starter dose for those who are over the age or 65, or those men who suffer from serious kidney and liver diseases.
The issues with very high or very low blood pressure, problems with prostate, or you use drugs called alpha-blockers for any reason, the smaller dose should be used at first. Also, the 25 mg dose is likely to be prescribed to patients who are taking protease inhibitors, mostly as one of the drugs in cocktails for HIV treatment. The most commonly prescribed dose of Viagra is 50 milligrams and it should be taken about an hour prior to sexual activity. However, the drug may prove it self effective even if taken up to four hours before the intercourse. As, like for any other medication, the necessary dose may vary depending on several factors such as body weight, age, general health and many others, the 50 milligram dose should work for most, but the best advice is to have a doctors opinion on the matter and, depending on the quality of the achieved erection, adjustments of the Viagra dose may be needed.
The strongest dose of Viagra that is available is 100 milligrams of Sildenafil per a pill. The higher doses might be ineffective, as well as dangerous. No more than one pill a day should be used, but in certain cases, a doctor may restrict this to one pill in 48 hours. All of the Viagra pills are labeled with Pfizer on one side, and, depending on the dosage, letter VGR and corresponding number – 25, 50 or 100 on the other side. You should never change the amount of drug that you are taking without consulting your health care provider.
